So it’s the summer and I’m finally done with work. It’s funny because I keep telling people that I’m laid off and I generally smile with it. People are so confused, like why are you happy you’re laid off? Well, I’m a teacher! That should explain it all lol. Although I love my little chicken nuggets, this teacher still needs a break! But anyway, summer break is here for me and I’ll actually be moving into my new townhome tomorrow. Yay! More space and generally a better area. Throughout the year, it’s easy to be so focused on completing tasks, serving others, and working hard that you tend to neglect yourself. And this is what I wanted to talk about, self-care.
Self-care is so vitally important because we can’t help others on an empty tank. And what I mean by that is if you really want to be your best for others in whatever capacity that may be, you won’t be able to do it if you aren’t properly taking care of yourself. And self-care isn’t some big expensive thing that you have to do. It’s actually the little things like making sure you get enough sleep. Eating foods that give you energy boosts (sorry, coffee doesn’t count, lol). But overall, just doing things that YOU find enjoyable or relaxing.
Sometimes taking care of yourself involves recognizing things and people who are adding negativity to your life. The world can be negative enough on its own, so why allow additional negativity to cloud your happiness? This is where assertiveness comes in. You have to put your foot down and take control of your happiness. This can mean saying no to people who constantly rely on you to do things for them and you know you hate doing it. Saying no doesn’t make you a mean person (depending on how you say it), but rather a person who chooses to take control over your peace of mind. Some people may not appreciate this new change in you, but that doesn’t matter. This is for you, not them.
So go read a book, get some ice cream, go to the movies with a friend, or by yourself. Whatever brings you joy, do it. Because if you don’t take care of yourself, no one else will. God gave you this amazing temple and he wants us to take care of it. Don’t let stress ruin a good day. Be in control of your own happiness and choose joy. Things may seem stressful now and you may even be going through a trial, but the bible says in Psalm 30:5 that weeping endures but for a moment, and joy cometh in the morning. So rejoice! God is always right beside you and he wants you to be happy.
That’s all for this post. But definitely stay tuned to the blog. Next week I will be sharing some amazing news with you guys and I can’t wait! Be blessed and until next time!
